Register Your Organisation

The Leitrim Volunteer Centre team supports community and voluntary organisations across the county to strengthen their volunteer programmes, build capacity, and engage volunteers who help achieve organisational goals. By working closely with registered groups, we develop volunteer roles that are both appealing to volunteers and aligned with organisational needs.

Registering your organisation with the Leitrim Volunteer Centre is a strategic step that strengthens your capacity, credibility and community impact. It gives access to a diverse pool of skilled and vetted volunteers who can enhance service delivery, bring specialist expertise, and support everything from frontline activities to board-level roles. Registration also supports safer recruitment practices, including Garda vetting, and provides access to training and best-practice resources, helping organisations to manage volunteers effectively and responsibly. At the same time, it raises your organisation’s profile, builds trust with funders and the wider community, and fosters stronger local engagement, making it a valuable investment in a more sustainable and community-connected organisation.

Volunteering & Social Welfare

As an organisation that involves volunteers, you may be required to notify your local Social Welfare Office of your intention to engage volunteers who are in receipt of Social Welfare benefits. This usually arises when a volunteer presents you with a VW1 form for completion.

The purpose of the VW1 form is to confirm that your organisation involves volunteers for genuine voluntary reasons and is not providing payment in place of wages or replacing paid roles with volunteers.

Completing a VW1 form for volunteers who are in receipt of benefits helps to protect both the organisation and the volunteer, ensuring clarity and compliance for all parties involved.
